Planning on making your holy hour soon? Need something to keep away from potential distractions and have a deep hour of prayer? I have you covered. Here are five things to take to your next Holy Hour. Let’s not get technical with this hour of prayer.

Rosary

Like a soldier that must go to battle with his rifle, Catholics must arm themselves with the rosary. Tip: pray the rosary before the Blessed Sacrament and gain an indulgence. Learn more here.

Don’t forget to offer closing prayers for the intentions of our Holy Father and for the souls of the faithfully departed.

Spiritual Reading

Bring a book on the life of a saint to read. Also, consider bringing a missal or subscription from Magnificat and meditating on the reading of the day. Ponder on the word of God using the Lectio Divina method. How is God speaking to you at that very moment?

Spiritual Journal

Many saints in the church have had a strong devotion to the Eucharist. When they were before the Blessed Sacrament, they found the strength and the wisdom they need to share His message with others. A spiritual journal can accompany your daily missal as you note a phrase or reflect on the word of God. It can be great to read again a year or so down the road.

Prayer Book

Use that hour to pray different litanies, prayers to saints, and even reflections from others on the Eucharist. Some may also have a reflection on Stations of the Cross or other seasonal meditations to correspond to every liturgical season.
