August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. To help inspire you, here are six quotes to meditate upon during this month.
“Do whatever He tells you.” – John 2:5
This quote of Mary’s is not discussed often enough. In it, we find quite possibly the best piece of advice ever given. Mary tells the waiters at the Wedding at Cana (and us) to follow what Jesus tells us to do.
“To save the souls of poor sinners, God wishes to establish the devotion to my Immaculate Heart throughout the world.” – Our Lady of Fatima
Here we find the end of devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the salvation of sinners. Mary wants nothing more than to bring others to the source of salvation, her Son Jesus. We also learn from this quote that God wills a devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
“Be not afraid; my Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and your safe page to God.” – Our Lady of Fatima
Mary’s heart is a refuge, somewhere we can go when troubled. In her heart, we shall find the courage necessary to face our fears.
“If you put all the love of the mothers into one heart it still would not equal the love of the Heart of Mary for her children.” – St. Louis de Montfort
St. Louis de Montfort had a special devotion to Mary. His statement here is an amazing description of the love Mary has for us. She wants to draw us near, so we can be near her Son.
“Open to the Spirit, [Mary] consecrated herself totally as lowly handmaid to the person and work of the Savior. She received Christ in order to share Him with all the world whose hope He is. In her, we recognize the model of the Church’s faith and our own.” – St. Eugène de Mazenod
Here, St. Eugène de Mazenod, founder of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, tells us that Mary is the model of our Faith. If we wish to draw near to Christ, we ought to imitate her.
“The most efficacious way to have devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” – St. Margaret Mary
Simply put, if we draw near to heart of Mary, we will draw near to the heart of Jesus. St. Margaret Mary tells us devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is the most efficacious way to grow closer to the heart of Our Savior, meaning it is extremely powerful in our devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
