On December 17, Catholics begin a period of prayer and reflection known as the O Antiphons, which are part of the Advent liturgy. These special prayers are called “O Antiphons” because each one begins with the exclamation “O” and addresses Christ by a different title. They are used during Vespers (evening prayer) from December 17 to December 23.
