It’s almost Ash Wednesday and if you haven’t already it’s time to start discerning what this year’s Lent will look like for you. But before you jot down an item or two under prayer and fasting and maybe something under almsgiving and call it good, stop and pray. What might be the guiding principle of your Lent? Is the Lord inviting you to big sacrifices this year? Is He calling you to root out a particular vice? Is He asking you to pick up a small habit or two, knowing how the rest of your life is right now? Is He asking you to rest and trust Him more? The Church has been living Lent for almost two thousand years. The saints and the scriptures give us some wisdom to consider as we prepare to begin this year’s journey towards Easter.
Love Jesus this Lent and let Him love you.

Lent can bea reset on our spiritual lives, an opportunity to turn back to God with our whole hearts.

We should keep in mind that love and sanctity involve sacrifice.

Our fasting should not be so grand that we’re showing off to others.

If Lent feels like a slog even though it hasn’t even started yet, remember the goal.

Lent can be a time of strengthening.

Our crosses, both those we already live with and those we choose to take on this Lent, can be a way of imitating and being united to Christ.

We may fall but He is always there. Get to Confession.

Lent is a time of mercy.
