We previously covered that fact that Jesus is not Enough, which came from The Wild Goose is Loose.
Fr. Dave Pivonka is a Franciscan Friar of the Third Regular Order (TOR) who takes us on a journey to find out who the Third Person of the Holy Spirit is in his online series, “The Wild Goose is Loose.” It is a 14 part series about the wonders and works of the Holy Spirit and God’s love for each of us. The series is phenomenal. Taking our queue from the series’ first part, “God’s Love Poured Out”, here are some key items God wants for all of us:
1. The Greatest Gift
The greatest gift God has given to us is true love poured out and given freely. There is nothing we did to receive this gift, and there is nothing we can do for God to take it back. It is our choice to accept the gift.
2. Role of the Holy Spirit
Only the Holy Spirit can pour out God’s love. We can struggle on our own, trying to obtain it in our own ways, but it is only through the Holy Spirit that we receive this gift.
3. God can’t love us more
There is nothing we can do to make God love us any more or make God love us any less. It is completely UNCONDITIONAL.
4. A Penny is still Worth a Penny
In God’s eyes, we are all like dropped pennies. Some shiny and saintly, some well warn and dirty, even crushed. But just as we will pick up a penny no matter how shiny or beaten up it is, it is still worth 100 percent of what it was made for! It doesn’t lose value because it’s no longer perfect. God will still pick you up, no matter how damaged or dirty you are. He can make us shiny and like new again.
5. What does God do?
The love of God changes us, it frees us, restores us, fills us and satisfies us. We cannot be touched by the love of God and remain the same. It is the only thing that can give us purpose and meaning to our lives, otherwise we are in a constant state of searching for something to fill that hole in our hearts.
6. God is enough
St. Francis said, “You are enough for me.” He didn’t say, “Your everything for me” because when we experience the love of God poured out within us, it is enough. We need no more because God is enough.
7. Invite the Holy Spirit
Be still, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to pour forth the love of God, bringing joy, peace and the presence of God and stir something in you.
Only the Holy Spirit can prompt your heart to say ‘Father.’ Only the Holy Spirit opens your heart to love.
-Pope Francis
Come Holy Spirit, come.
