In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to let faith become something we keep on the sidelines rather than at the center of our lives. Whether you’re navigating a busy career, family life, or just trying to find your path, there are simple yet powerful ways to deepen your Catholic faith and experience a more fulfilling spiritual life. Below are seven simple steps that anyone from their early twenties to well into adulthood can incorporate into daily life to grow closer to God. These steps don’t require a drastic overhaul of your routine. Instead, they’re small, meaningful shifts that can make a big difference in your spiritual journey.

Simple Steps

  1. Start and End Each Day in Prayer
Begin with a simple morning offering to align your day with God’s will, and close with a short examination of conscience to reflect on the day’s blessings and challenges. This routine keeps God at the forefront of your mind and helps you grow in awareness of His presence in your life. Incorporate the Rosary or a visit to Eucharistic Adoration to deepen your relationship with Christ.
“Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
  2. Read Scripture Regularly
Dedicate ten to fifteen minutes a day to reading Scripture, focusing on the Gospels to connect with Christ’s life and teachings. Let the words sink in and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in understanding and applying them to your life.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
  3. Prioritize the Sacraments, Especially Confession, and the Eucharist
Make a habit of attending Mass without fail and receiving the Eucharist weekly and go to Confession at least monthly to experience God’s mercy firsthand. Regular practice of the sacramental life grounds you in God’s grace and reminds you of His love and forgiveness.
“He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.” (John 6:56)
  4. Practice Acts of Charity and Mercy
Volunteer for a cause or lend a hand to those in need, whether it’s in your community or even within your own family. Doing tangible acts of kindness helps embody the love of Christ and reminds you that every person is made in His image.
“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:40)
  5. Make Time for Quiet Reflection
Spend five to ten minutes each day in silence, listening for God’s voice. This stillness helps you grow in discernment and strengthens your ability to recognize God’s guidance amid the noise of daily life.
“Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
  6. Build a Catholic Community
Connect with other Catholics through parish events, bible studies, or service groups to share and support each other in faith. A strong community offers encouragement, accountability, and a tangible experience of the Body of Christ.
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20)
  7. Seek Guidance in Times of Doubt or Struggle
Reach out to a priest or spiritual mentor when you’re facing difficulties or need help in discerning God’s will. Leaning on others with wisdom and faith helps you navigate life’s challenges while staying close to Christ.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.” (Proverbs 3:5)

In embracing these steps, we embark on a journey of deepening our faith, aligning our hearts and minds with God’s will. Each step draws us closer to His presence, helping us to experience His love more fully and to reflect it in our daily lives. By committing to this path, we open ourselves to transformation, allowing God to work through us and fulfill His purpose for us in a profound and meaningful way. Through this closeness with Him, we find true peace, joy, and strength.
