Getting to know the great missionaries of our Faith is an important part of not only our tradition, but also our call to go out and make disciples of all nations. It encourages not only love for the Christian Faith, but also an admiration for the courage of the men and women who have prepared the way for the Lord. The book, Great Missionaries Throughout the Ages does just this. Here is a peek at the table of contents so you can see which saints readers encounter within these pages.

Recommended for independent reading of ages 9 and up, you will find adventurous stories, a summary of their story, when they lived, and even maps for a private study showing the journeys as a means of capturing children’s imaginations. The illustrations are something in particular that my almost 9 and 11-year-olds gravitate towards since they love to fill in their own doodles with things like storm clouds, who is with someone, key pieces to a story they found important, and maps.

The colors throughout the book are eye catching and draw you into the story. Looking at those waves and the concentration of the crew while Paul points the way ahead, ever focused on his mission but not letting something like repeated shipwrecks discourage him.

Important things that St. Paul did for Christ, where he lived, how to recognize him in sacred art, and a map of his journeys are a very useful addition to this book that I especially welcome. Children of all ages (and adults!) will walk away from these pages knowing so much more about these amazing missionaries and the missions they took up to let Christ be known throughout the world.

This would make a fabulous gift for those right around 9 and up in your life. Get that globe ready to brush up on your geography as you talk to your kids about what they are reading and learning, and pick up your copy of this great book by following this link.
